As you know, every month we donate 1% of our sales to a good cause. For September it was SAVE THE BEES and while researching this campaign we learned a lot about why saving the bees is so important:
Basically, “since the late 1990s, beekeepers around the world have observed the mysterious and sudden disappearance of bees, and report unusually high rates of decline in honeybee colonies. Bee killing pesticides in particular pose the most direct risk to pollinators.” Did you know that “the economic value of bees’ pollination work has been estimated around € 265 billion annually, worldwide?” A third of all our food depends on bees’ and other insects’ pollination. A world without pollinators would be devastating for food production. Visit SAVE THE BEES for more info!
Ever heard of wildflower bombing?! This video has inspired us to find some land to flower bomb to help the bees!
We also found these beautiful images of beehive frames from a charming blog called Appleturnover. With this sense of color and pattern, we may have some bees come to the studio to help design our next collection…
