Last year we sent an email with all of Eskayel’s 2014 highlights in detail, since 2015 has been even better, we’ve decided to do it again. So much has happened and some major milestones were reached!
Despite our growth Eskayel is still a very personal endeavor for us, and a reflection of our lives and values. This year we would like to share with you a list of things we are grateful for and love which seem to sum it all up nicely.
We hope your year was awesome too and our entire team wishes you the most productive, kind, fun and wonderful 2016!!!
Things we are grateful for and LOVE:
YOU – Our amazing customer base of extremely talented designers and DIY geniuses! And special thanks for all of your amazing installation shots. ( click the photo below to see our page of your gorgeous installs )
OUR TEAM – From our unbelievably amazing and beautiful (inside and out) studio team to all of the people who are part of production teams, we are so fortunate to have the absolute best people ever working with us.
COLLABORATIONS – with some of the coolest and most random companies out there doing their thing and doing it better than everyone else!
PRESS – We are so grateful for each and every piece ever written or published about our work, be it a personal blog or major publication. Without it Eskayel would not be here today!
OUR STOCKISTS AND SHOWROOMS – The coolest little and big boutiques out there curating spaces for their communities to get inspired about good living and beautiful things.
OUR CHARITABLE PARTNERS WORKING TO SAVE THE PLANET – Being able to make a difference is a big part of our brand and we are so grateful to the charities we support for the work they do to help educate and legislate for our planet and oceans.
OUR CREATIVE FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES – keeping us on our toes and super inspired is not easy but you guys do it on a daily basis!! Having the opportunity to have our work featured side by side in epic projects is a true honor.
PANTONE COLORS OF THE YEAR – Serenity and Rose Quarts basically #eskayelcolor in a nutshell. Unbelievably lucky for us!
IKAT – this year we finally brought our dream of making Ikats with our patterns in Sumba, Indonesia a reality!
RUGS – Launching our own in house rug line has been a game changer and the most fun we’ve had yet. We are currently so obsessed with designing rugs that that’s all you will hear about from now on (just kidding) ( not kidding ).
PATTERN – This is our origin, our ethos, our bread and butter and first true love. We hope to keep it fresh, refined and beyond dreamy in the years to come!
THE BEACH – sand, sun, sea, surfing – need I say more?
NATURE AND THE EARTH – for giving and giving no matter how much we take. My biggest inspiration and where I see the colors at the core of the Eskayel aesthetic.
TRAVEL – Getting out there in the world is the best way to gain perspective and appreciation.
YOGA AND MEDITATION – My way to stay connected to the truth and what really matters.
INSTAGRAM – totally addicted. below are our top nine posts of the year. Our Dynasty pattern is still super popular and upholstery projects have garnered a lot of attention this year. I love that my painting desk is number one

2014 was a busy year for us at Eskayel and we thank you for being a part of that growth!
We started off the year with some really nice press and collaborations right off the bat including this video on curbed.com and the Design Sponge office make over in collaboration with Homepolish.
Then we hopped on a plane to Nicaragua for some tropical inspiration and some yoga with Yoga for Bad People who we collaborated with on their stickers later in the year.
In January we hired a new assistant and set up health insurance and fair wages for all three of us, a goal since reading The Responsible Company by Patagonia founders Yvon Chouinard and Vincent Stanley. We also joined One Percent for the Planet pledging a minimum of one percent of our annual gross sales to environmental organizations. We ended up giving over $10,000 this year to organizations dedicating to saving our planet and its habitats, especially the ocean, which we find particularly inspiring and endangered. Visit our GIVING page to learn more and to find links to the organizations we support.
Nick and I traveled to Vail to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. When we came back we launched the Jangala collection and it was featured on Sight Unseen. The collection was inspired by trips to Tulum and Belize the prior year. I get my biggest inspiration when traveling to places where nature is in full force and this year we got to travel a lot. From the Catskills to Colorado, Nicaragua to Montauk, Panama to California, and Jamaica for Nick, we spent a lot of time in the water and on the mountain. This is the year we learned to surf!
Our new home studio was featured on Elle Decor and Lonny which was very exciting for us! We collaborated with G E T S P A C E D out to design a room at the Playland motel and it was featured in the design issue of New York Magazine! We introduced our Playland capsule of patterns. Designing the suite at the motel was super fun and a great way to incorporate our love of surfing into the decor.
We added new products to our ongoing collaboration with ABC Carpet and Home, including new exclusive patterns and fabric by the yard, a headboard and new upholstered benches and ottomans. Most exciting was the release of our first bedding set!
At ICFF we filled our biggest booth yet to the brim with pattern, like and Eskayel explosion.
We spent the summer in Montauk working on our new website (and learning to surf, did I mention that?). We shared it with you all on our Instagram account, along with tons of gorgeous pictures of Eskayel installed, posted by our clients. Our website features those installation shots here on our new installation page. Our new site launched in the Fall and we couldn’t have done it without the help of all our summer interns, freelancers and our awesome web designer Peter Belsky!
Our exclusive trade showroom Studio Four also expanded into a much larger gorgeous new space this last fall.
Our Wedding was featured in Bridal Guide, we expanded our team with two more part time employees, one a trained interior designer, and we buckled down and worked hard on many new projects that we are so excited to share with you in 2015. There are so many projects we can’t wait to announce and we hope you will be there to share all of it with us! For the Holiday season we released our new photographic prints , had our furniture in the foyer of the Holiday house and collaborated with Bird on their holiday cards and packaging.
We finished off the year with a Huge surprise and a great honor. We were selected as an Eileen Fischer Women’s owned business grant recipient and we were selected as an honoree for In HER Company an TakePart.org initiative celebrating women entrepreneurs.
Here’s to 2015, we hope you have a fantastic NEW YEAR!
We are proud to be giving 1% of November’s sales to Mission Blue. This is our second time giving to this wonderful organization. If you haven’t seen the Netflix exclusive Mission Blue film — that chronicles the life of foremost American women oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle — you must check it out! The film raises awareness about ocean decline while inspiring action for global efforts toward ocean conservation. Dr. Earle’s enthusiasm for saving the ocean that sustains us is infectious!
We donated 1% of our October sales to Surfrider! It’s our second time giving to them because we really stand behind what they do in their mission to protect our oceans. Their NYC Chapter is currently working on a campaign to put a 10 cent fee on single-use plastic and paper bags. Hearings are underway and the issue is being hotly debated. In light of this campaign and of California’s new statewide ban on plastic bags we decided to look around for interesting plastic bag re-purpose projects, helping to bring awareness to the issue. Artist Vilde J. Rolfsen set out to “make plastic bags look magical” and succeeded – in our opinion. See her images below to decide for yourself and for more of her beautiful work visit her website and Tumblr.
“Worldwide, nearly two million single-use plastic bags are used each minute. Plastic bags have consistently been reported in the top five most common forms of ocean litter. For every square mile of ocean, there are about 46,000 pieces of plastic floating in it and it can take upwards of 1,000 years to degrade. While these figures are staggering, there seems to be more than a glimmer of hope as the number of single-use plastic bag bans is on an uptick! “
