The Nicoyán Collection

On a recent visit to Costa Rica, Eskayel founder and watercolorartist Shanan Campanaro shifted her attention to the flora surrounding the house where she always stays. From these serene and lush scenes, Nicoyán – our new collection of painterly patterns for wallpaper, fabric, and pillows – was born. The ink-wash Pétalos pattern displays flowers and leaves floating on a wavy, loose grid. This is Shanan’s interpretation of nature’s beautiful discards trapped near the edge of an infinity swimming pool. The pool’s tiny one-inch tiles – distorted by the water’s depth – inspired the unique, fluid background. Tropical branches and leaves casting sharp shadows onto a stone patio in the midday sun form the basis of the hand-painted Plumeria Shadows pattern. The expressive aquarelle design shows the tree’s leaves in stark contrast to the background field of color. Artwork exploring the same tree appears in Alhelí, which renders the composition as a tiny repeating pattern.
