Product Variation
Due to the bespoke, small-batch nature of our products, variations can occur. Fluctuations in the digital printing process, textures of woven natural fibers, and custom yarn dying can contribute to variation and imbue your product with a handcrafted, one-of-a-kind quality. We do strive to retain consistency but allowances are made for up to a 10% variation.
***Please note that colors shown on the website are representative. We use natural light for our photographs and cannot be responsible for color variations due to various types of lighting. Refer to the product sample for expected hues in specific lighting.***
***Due to varying ink, printing systems, and material lots, wallpapers and fabrics of the same pattern do not always precisely align in color and scale.***
Inks
All Eskayel wallpaper and fabrics are digitally printed with water-based inks, rather than hand screened with vinyl-based solvent ink, which is the one of the most environmentally damaging aspects of traditional wallpaper production. The digital printing process also eliminates runoff, which is the most environmentally damaging aspect of traditional fabric- and wallpaper-printing processes.
Our Prima archival wallpaper is printed using a UV-cured, aqueous pigment ink system that is non-toxic and VOC free. All of our other papers are printed with water-based latex inks free of VOCs and runoff.
Our fabric printing employs a cutting-edge, direct-to-textile digital printing technology with zero water consumption, no water pollution, and with a dedicated Robusto Ink that is Eco-Passport and GOTS approved. This system serves as the only truly sustainable drying process in the industry.
How to Calculate
Prima Wallpaper Quantities
To calculate the square footage of Prima wallpaper you'll need, follow these steps:
- Measure the height of your tallest wall.
- Add 6 inches to that height measurement and round up to the nearest foot.
- Measure the width of each wall you'll be covering, add those measurements together, and add 6 inches.
- Round up the resulting number to the nearest even foot for the width.
- Enter the height and width measurements into the wallpaper square footage calculator to get the total square footage.
Example: If your tallest wall is 9 feet 10 inches high, add 6 inches to get 10 feet 4 inches. Round up to 11 feet for the height. If you're covering two walls, with widths of 4 feet 7 inches and 10 feet 3 inches, add them together to get 14 feet 10 inches. Add 6 inches to get 15 feet 4 inches, then round up to the nearest even number which is 16 feet for the width. Then enter these measurements (height of 11 feet and width of 16 feet) into the calculator to determine the total square footage: Total Square Footage: 176 square feet.
How to Calculate
Vellum Wallpaper Quantities
To calculate the square footage of Vellum wallpaper you'll need, follow these steps:
- Measure the height of your tallest wall.
- Add 6 inches to that height measurement and round up to the nearest foot.
- Measure the width of each wall you'll be covering, add those measurements together, and add 6 inches.
- Round up to the nearest multiple of 2.25 feet by dividing 2.25 into your width measurement from step 3 and rounding up to the nearest whole number to give you the required number of panels
Add 6 inches to get 15 feet 4 inches. Divide 2.25 into 15 feet 4 inches and round up to the nearest whole number (7) to find the nearest multiple of 2.25 feet. Enter the height of 11 feet and width of 2.25 feet x 7 = 15.75 feet into the calculator to determine the total square footage: Total Square Footage: 176 square feet.

Prima Archival Paper Technical Info
Printed as custom panels that are two feet wide with a custom lengths based on ceiling height, our Prima paper is priced by the square foot.
Wood-pulp fibers for our Prima archival paper come from Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified wood harvesting and pulping operations. The paper mill that produces this paper uses little fresh water, internally recycling and reusing over 99% of the water required for papermaking.
The little water that is discharged has nearly all solids removed from it by filtration before it is discharged to the town waste treatment plant. No VOCs are discharged to the atmosphere from the paper mill. Under typical commercial landfill conditions, this paper breaks down quickly and naturally, as microorganisms consume the cellulose wood pulp fibers. In contrast, PVC vinyl wallcoverings can take decades to break down and release powerful toxic compounds.
Specs:
Material: Latex-saturated/nylon-reinforced, high wet-strength paper pulp
Basis weight: 228 grams per square meter / 6.7 ounces per square yard
Flame Spread Class: Class A**
Meets ASTM 793 standards for commercial wallcovering
Prima Archival Wallpaper Installation Guide
In order to reduce waste and installation time, our Prima paper comes in custom panels based on the height of the wall or area that is to be covered rather than by pattern repeat measurement alone. Panels are created to side match from the top unless otherwise specified and are 24 inches wide. Panels come untrimmed with a quarter-inch selvage and are trim-to-bleed.
Eskayel highly recommends consultation with a professional paperhanger prior to installation.
These instructions are for our Prima archival wallpaper only.
Wall Preparation
- Wall should be prepared to a smooth, clean, and dry surface prior to installation. Wallcovering will not hide flaws such as nail holes, bumps, or dirt.
- Primer sealer should be used on unpainted drywall or glossy paint. Use acrylic wallcovering primers: Professional Ultra Prime (PRO-977), Golden Harvest White Bite, or Allpro Ultra Prep 685. Priming provides a sound surface that wallcovering will adhere to.
- It is recommended to strip down the previous layer(s) of wallcovering. The wallcovering may seem to be firmly adhered to the wall, but the addition of another layer can cause adhesion failure.
Paste Information
- Clear adhesives such as Professional Ultra Premium Heavy Duty Clear Strippable (PRO-880), Golden Harvest GH-34 Clear Stripable, and Allpro Pro-Duty 3400 provide good adhesion and allow for easier stripping when the wall covering is to be removed or replaced.
- Pastes such as Professional Heavy Duty Clear PRO-838 or Allpro Clear Hang 610 have a more aggressive adhesion and should be used for more permanent applications.
- Apply a coat of the adhesive to paper using a half-inch nap paint roller. Book for 10 minutes.
Hanging Instructions
- Do not use tape on image surface.
- Table trim selvage at edge of printed area to bleed. Do not double cut.
- Align top and adjoining edges.
- Smooth panels into place with a smoothing brush, starting at the center of the panel working towards the edges.
- Use a plastic smoother to push air pockets to the edges.
- It is absolutely essential to thoroughly remove all excess paste from the paper using a lightly damp rag or sponge after installation. Do not use a fully damp sponge as slight running may occur in heavy coverage areas. If any paste is left to dry, flaking may occur which can lead to spots from ink being pulled from the paper.
- Overlapping the seams is not recommended.
Classic Clay-Coated Wallpaper
Technical Info
Classic wallpaper is a clay-coated paper manufactured with responsibly sourced fiber by suppliers who adhere to one of the globally recognized forestry chain-of-custody programs. It comes in a standard roll size of 27 inches by 15 feet. Single, double, triple, and sometimes quadruple rolls are available.
Our Classic clay-coated papers are manufactured with responsibly sourced, elemental chlorine-free fiber, and all suppliers adhere to one of the globally recognized forestry or chain-of-custody programs, including Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), program for the Endorsement of Forestry Certification (PEFC), and Canadian Standards Association. Our paper supplier is both an ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004-certified company. It creates approximately 50% of its electricity through low-impact hydroelectric generators and has been designated by the EPA as a National Performance Track Company. 100% of the mill’s short-paper fiber is reclaimed and used in the agricultural industry for nutrient-rich compost or animal bedding.

Classic Clay Coated Wallpaper Installation Guide
Eskayel highly recommends consultation with a professional paperhanger prior to installation.
These instructions are for our classic clay coated wallpaper only.
Measurement Guidelines
- We recommend measuring with a yardstick or steel tape measure. Make your measurements in feet and round off to the next half foot or foot.
- Measure the wall height from the floor to the ceiling, excluding any baseboards or moldings. Then measure the length of the wall without deducting for windows or doors (this will leave you extra wallpaper in case you may need it). Multiply the two measurements to find the surface area of the wall.
- Single rolls of our paper are 15 feet long and 27 inches wide, with one roll covering about 30 square feet. To find the number of rolls needed to cover your wall, multiply the height and the width of the wall by rounding up each length to the nearest foot. Then divide by 30.
- Example: For a wall that is 10 feet 6 inches high by 9 feet 4 inches long, round up and multiply 11 feet by 10 feet to get 110 square feet. Divide 110 by 30 and you will get 3.6. In this case you will need five rolls. (If the number divides out to be .5 or above, you will need to add one more roll on to be safe. If you were to get 3.4, four rolls would be enough, but if you get 3.5 to 4.4, you will need five rolls.)
- If you are unsure, please contact us before making a purchase.
- Clay adhesives such as Professional Extra Strength (PRO-732), Professional Clay Strippable (PRO-774), Golden Harvest GH-40, Allpro Extra Strength Vinyl 600m, and Allpro Clay Strippable 661 have also been shown to be effective both during installation and in the removal of these wallcovering materials.
- Pastes such as Professional Heavy Duty Clear PRO-838 or Allpro Clear Hang 610 have a more aggressive adhesion and should be used for more permanent applications.
- Vinyl-over-vinyl pastes tend to dry too quickly on these products and are not recommended.
- Apply a coat of the adhesive to paper using a half-inch nap paint roller. Book for 10 minutes.
Hanging Instructions
- Do not use tape on image surface.
- It is recommended to table trim the selvage at the trim marks.
- Align top and adjoining edges. Smooth panels into place with a smoothing brush, starting at the center of the panel working towards the edges.
- Use a plastic smoother to push air pockets to the edges.
- The low wet expansion of these products allows double cutting at the seams.
- Remove all excess paste from the paper using a lightly damp rag or sponge. Do not use a fully damp sponge as slight running may occur in heavy coverage areas. If any paste is left to dry, flaking may occur which can lead to spots from ink being pulled from the paper.
- Overlapping the seams is not recommended.

Non-Woven Vellum Mural Installation Guide
This heavyweight, luxe hand-feel paper has an ultra-matte finish to minimize glare. It is suitable for residential and low-traffic commercial locations.
Notes
- The highest quality of workmanship is employed in the production of this wallcovering. While careful inspection is made before shipment, final inspection and approval are the ultimate responsibilities of the customer. Correct design, color, and quantity should be verified before the wallcovering is cut or hung.
- Inspect your wallcovering for defects prior to installation. No claims will be honored after merchandise has been cut or hung. No labor claims will be honored for any reason.
- This wallpaper is provided on a continuous bolt.
- For best results, please cut and hang panels in the order that they come off the bolt. This provides the most consistent color from panel to panel. Work in one direction around the room, with the first and last panels from the bolt meeting in a corner or doorway rather than on a flat wall.
Wall Preparation
- Remove all old wallpaper and repair damaged areas.
- All walls must be smooth, clean, and free of mildew and grease stains.
- If necessary, apply a stain killing primer.
- Be sure newly plastered walls have been washed with a zinc sulfate solution.
- New, unpainted surfaces should be sealed with an oil based primer.
- Follow up with a high-quality wallcovering primer sold in your local paint and wallpaper store.
- Do not use glue size.
- Pro tip: On all surfaces that are to be papered, we recommend using a universal pigmented wallcovering primer/sealer such as Shields. The pigment should be the same color as the background color of your wallpaper.
Trimming Instructions
- Cut the individual panels from the roll.
- Inspect the panels and make sure they match the panel map included in the roll.
- Use trim marks provided to trim excess from edges of paper.
Pasting Instructions
- This stain-resistant strippable wallcovering can be hung best with a clear premixed adhesive.
- Apply paste generously to the back, edge to edge, smoothly and evenly using a paint roller.
- Book the paper by loosely folding the pasted sides together without creasing.
- Align the edges carefully so the paste doesn’t dry out.
- Gently roll the booked piece to ensure the pasted sides make good contact.
- Allow to soak and expand for 3 to 5 minutes. Time is subjective to heat or humidity at the jobsite.
- Don’t allow to soak too long in a dry environment as it may dry out the glue.
Hanging Instructions
- Create a plumb line using either a laser or by drawing with a straight edge and level. This will be your guide for positioning the first panel. Use only a lead pencil for marking walls and back of wallcovering. Do not use ballpoint or marking pen as they will bleed through the surface.
- Position the first panel along the plumb line.
- Use a smoothing brush to remove all air pockets, wrinkles and excess paste by brushing the wallcovering from the center to the edges.
- A seam roller can be used to lightly roll edges of paper being careful not to push paste out.
- Repeat the procedure with the second panel sliding it into position with its edge butted up against the edge of the preceding panel.
- Do not overlap the panels.
- Wash any glue residue from surrounding wood trim/molding immediately upon hanging each panel.
- Using a clean, damp sponge, gently wash adhesive completely from the surface of the wallcovering immediately after each strip is hung. Any adhesive left on the wallcovering can, at a later date, attack the surface-printed inks and cause them to flake.

Grasscloth Installation Guide
Sisal grasscloth is a complicated material to install and it is best done by an experienced and accredited wallpaper installer. It is imperative that your installer be familiar with the nature and process of installing grasscloth. Eskayel highly recommends contacting an installer accredited with the Wallcovering Installers Association.
These instructions are for our grasscloth wallcovering only.
- Single rolls of this paper are 15 feet long and 33 inches wide, with one roll covering about 40 square feet. To find the number of rolls needed to cover your wall, multiply the height and the width of the wall by rounding up each length to the nearest foot. Then divide by 40.
- Example: For a wall that is 10 feet 6 inches high by 14 feet 4 inches long, round up and multiply 11 feet by 15 feet to get 165 square feet. Divide 165 by 40 and you will get 4.125. In this case you will need 5 rolls. (If the number divides out to be .5 or above, you will need to add one more roll to be safe. If you were to get 2.4, three rolls would be enough, but if you get 2.5 to 3.4, you will need four rolls.)
- If you are unsure, please contact us before making a purchase.
Wall Preparation
- Remove old wallcovering and glue if applicable.
- Wash walls to remove old paste and other foreign matter.
- Repair wall imperfections with plaster and sand smooth.
- Wash walls with a strong solution of household bleach to kill mold spores and prevent mildew from occurring.
- Prime surface to be wallpapered with a white alkyd base primer sold in your local paint and wallpaper store. Do not use glue-size.
Trimming Instructions
- Refer to join marks on paper edge for pattern match (half drop/straight match).
- Use trim marks provided to trim excess from edges of paper.
Pasting Instructions
- This wallcovering can be hung best with a clear premixed adhesive.
- Apply paste generously to the back, edge to edge, smoothly and evenly. Care should be taken to not allow adhesive or water on the wallcovering surface.
- For ease in hanging, after pasting we recommend the complete sheet be “booked” (folded back to back) and allowed to soak and relax while you proceed to paste the next sheet.
- After the second sheet is pasted and booked, the first sheet can be applied to the wall.
Hanging Instructions
- After cutting the desired length and pasting, position the wallcovering on the wall.
- Use a smoothing brush to remove all air pockets, wrinkles and excess paste by brushing the wallcovering from the center to the edges.
- Do not use seam rollers, as this can discolor the surface.
- Repeat the procedure with the second strip, sliding it into position with its edge butted up against the edge of the proceeding strip.
- Be sure to match up the design.
- Do not overlap the wallcovering.
- Wash any glue residue from surrounding wood trim/molding immediately upon hanging each panel.
Notes
- This product is handmade and woven with natural fibers that give the finished product a certain unevenness.
- Special care should be taken to not allow water on the wallcovering.
- This is NOT a washable wallcovering. Use a vacuum only to clean the surface.
Paperweave Technical Info
Paperweave wallcovering has a textural, organic feel. Handwoven, earth-friendly woven paper is backed with chemical-free paper and printed with water-based latex inks.
Paperweave Wallcovering Installation Guide
Eskayel highly recommends consultation with a professional paperhanger prior to installation.
This product is handmade and woven, giving the finished product a certain unevenness.
These instructions are for our paperweave wallcovering only.
Wall Preparation
- Remove all old wallpaper and repair damaged areas.
- All walls must be smooth, clean, and free of mildew and grease stains.
- If necessary apply a stain killing primer.
- Be sure to wash newly plastered walls with a zinc sulfate solution. Follow up with primer sealer such as Roman’s Ultra Premium Pro 977.
- On all drywall we recommend using a pigmented wallcovering primer/sealer such as Shields Primer/Sealer.
Trimming and Hanging Instructions
- Draw a vertical line from ceiling to floor by using a plumb line or straight edge with level. This will be your guide for positioning one edge of the first strip.
- Cut the strip to the height of the wall, allowing an extra 2 inches on each end for trimming.
- Do not use tape on image surface.
- Table trim the selvage at the trim marks.
- Apply adhesive evenly to the back of the strip, being careful not to get adhesive on the face of the material. Paste only one strip at a time. We recommend a cellulose paste or a premixed clear adhesive such as Roman’s Ultra Premium Clear Pro 88O for best results.
- Book by folding each end of the strip toward the middle, pasted sides together, aligning the edges carefully so they do not dry out. Roll the folded strip as you would a loose newspaper, again being careful to keep the edges aligned. Let folded, rolled strip to “rest” for three minutes.
- Bring to the wall and hang, carefully smoothing all air pockets, wrinkles, or excess paste from the center of the strip to the edges. Trim excess at floor and ceiling using a sharp utility knife.
- Repeat this procedure with the next strip, sliding it into position with the edge butted up against the preceding strip. Do not overlap seams.
Notes
- Do not use a seam roller as this can discolor the surface.
- Do not allow material to become too wet. (Because of how the woven material adheres to the backing paper, prolonged soaking can soften the adhesive and cause the grass to separate from the back paper.)
- Do not allow adhesive or water on the wallcovering surface as it will cause staining or discoloration to the product.
- This is not a washable wallcovering. Use vacuum only to clean the surface.
100% Silk Wallcovering Installation Instructions
Please read this in full before beginning. Extra care must be taken during installation as this substrate is more susceptible to creasing than traditional wallcovering products.
This hand woven wallcovering has a natural finish that may show some shade variations from strip to strip. Natural fibers may contain some irregularities and imperfections in texture, color, and weave. This is a natural, inherent quality of these materials and should not be considered a defect. These instructions are a general guide only, they cannot cover all surfaces and conditions.
Wall Preparation
The walls to be covered must be properly prepared to ensure that the wallpaper will adhere to the wall surface. Even the strongest adhesive can only work when the wall surface is clean and properly prepared.
Building & Material Conditions
- The building must be weather-tight with HVAC settings (including pressure, temperature, and relative humidity) the same as those of an occupied building for three days prior to, throughout installation, and three days after installation.
- The walls must be structurally sound including elimination of sources of moisture accumulation into the wall or wall cavity.
- The wallcovering must be in a clean and dry condition and must be stored at normal occupied building temperature and humidity for at least three days prior to installation.
- All adhesives and primers must be new, good quality, commercial grade materials, which have not been contaminated.
Preparation
- Before you cut and hang, please be sure you have:
- The correct wallcovering and the correct amount of wallcovering to finish the job.
- Inspect the wallcovering carefully to ensure it is free of defects: If no defect is evident before installation, the material should be inspected after three (3) strips are installed. If any defect is evident at this time (or at any point in the installation) no additional material should be hung. NO CLAIMS WILL BE ALLOWED FOR MORE THAN (3) STRIPS ON THE WALL. All claims must be made within 30 days of the invoice date. No labor claims will be allowed at any time.
Adhesive
- We recommend using a clay adhesive.
- Apply the paste to the back of the paper, which will become flexible and easy to hang.
- Do not add excessive water to the paste as it may cause the backing paper to pull away from the front.
Trimming
- Please create your own precision edge on your work table or by making a double cut on the wall for the finest seam possible.
- Trim edges with a VERY sharp razor blade. CHANGE YOUR BLADES OFTEN.
Installation
- Plumb wall for first strip.
- Cut strips and allow extra material at the top and bottom for trimming. Hang strips in the same sequence as cut from master roll.
- After cutting the strips from two bolts, take a few minutes to shade the strips from light to dark to ensure the most even shading. The installer may reverse strips if they feel that it will produce the most even shading. Once you are satisfied with the shading from the first two bolts, cut and shade the balance of the rolls.
- Apply wallcovering to the wall surface, smoothing out all bubbles with a soft brush or cloth.
- Do not use wooden or nylon seam roller as this can polish the surface.
- For vertical strand quality, smooth out bubbles in a direction parallel to the patterns, while paying attention to the fibers on the surface of the wallcoverings.
Important
- DO NOT FOLD this wallcovering while pasting or booking, as it is susceptible to potential wrinkling and creasing.
- Use a soft brush or cloth when hanging, so that you do not damage the face of the wallcovering.
- DO NOT allow paste or excessive water to stain the front of the wallcovering.
- Silk wallcoverings have a natural finish and may show some shade variation from strip to strip. As the wallcovering oxidizes, these variations should soften over time.
- Paste, trim, and hang one strip at a time.
- Gently smooth the wallcovering using a plastic smoother in the direction of the fiber. Do not use a seam roller.
Fabric
We offer great flexibility and customization with all our designs, with most of our fabrics made to order locally in the Northeast. Fabric: Linen Technical Info
Flax is "green" by nature. It has been cultivated for thousands of years with great respect for the environment. It is a plant that grows naturally and needs very few chemicals. Few or no fertilizers and/or crop protection products are used compared to other crops. Flax does not require irrigation during the growing process. The flax plant is gentle on the land and is easy to incorporate into modern crop-rotation cycles. The processing of flax requires very little energy and does not harm nature. The water-retting process has been replaced by environmentally friendly dew-retting on the field.
Flax has some inherent ecological characteristics: All parts of the plant are used (there is no waste) and it is 100% biodegradable or recyclable. Flax seed is beneficial in human and animal nutrition because of its very high content of alpha omega-3 fatty acids. Flax seeds can be used as the base for a fine flour used in medical compresses. Linseed oil, extracted from flax seeds, is also used as a component in paints, cosmetics, soil coverings, etc. Flax fibers are further being used in heat insulation, packaging, etc.
Residual flax materials are used in fiber boards, bank notes, etc. The inherent strength of linen yarn reduces the need for starching during spinning and weaving. Linen fabrics can be recycled into paper and insulation materials for the car industry.
One of the most critical steps in the linen production process, in terms of ecology, is the washing, bleaching, dying, and finishing of the fabrics — a lot of water is traditionally used to clean and dye the fabrics. However, the finisher of our linens has invested heavily in technologies that minimize water consumption and meet all environmental standards.
The processes are continuously reviewed in order to:
- Minimize total water consumption and optimize water recycling during the processes.
- Reduce total energy consumption and optimize energy recuperation from effluents.
- Reduce the use of harmful chemicals in line with the most stringent standards:
- Only water-based chemicals are used during production.
- Chloride-based bleaching agents have been fully replaced by oxygen-based agents, such as peroxide.
- Dye selection is fully in line with the EC Directive 76/769/EEC banning prohibited azo dyes that release carcinogenic amine compounds (MAK Group III 1,2,3) and according to the ETAD standard, minimizing any possible adverse impact of organic colorants on health and environment, based on the principles of responsible care.
